Canticle Of Creation: A New Musical Composition

You are cordially invited to Canticle Of Creation: A New Musical Composition Saint Francis of Assisi wrote his Canticle of Creation from 1224 until his death in 1226. His was the first poem written in Italian -- as a separate language emerging from Latin in the early 13th century. St. Francis' poem celebrates the wonders of God in creation through the elements, flora, and fauna. He invites all of creation to praise God. That invitation still extends to us today as we celebrate the 800th anniversary of the canticle in 2025. Sister Briege O'Hare is a composer and musician. She is a Poor Clare nun living in a monastery at the Well of St. Brigid in Ireland. In celebration of the 800th anniversary of the Canticle of Creation, Sister Briege was asked by Australian Poor Clare sisters to compose a new musical score for the canticle utilizing only the words of the poem which St. Francis left for us. The new composition is in the form of a cantata. Sister Briege shared her story of composing the cantata with the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity in California on April 26, 2025. Join us on October 25, 2025, as we listen to an edited recording of Sister Briege's explanation of her cantata and listen also to the new musical accompaniment to St. Francis' Canticle of the Creatures!!
